Representatives from CoinMarketCap have reported phishing emails being sent to clients on behalf of the platform. Unknown individuals are conducting these campaigns to steal personal data and cryptocurrencies from traders.
The service team assured its followers on social network X that it never sends messages to clients first. If a user receives such an email from the company, under no circumstances should they send money or personal information. The attackers try to pressure users into making transfers or promise high returns without risks.
CoinMarketCap staff remind users that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it is a scam.
Recently, CoinGecko clients also started receiving phishing emails. Users were offered to participate in a free token giveaway. Fortunately, there were no data breaches.
According to analysts, the number of phishing incidents in the cryptocurrency market doubled in March 2024 compared to February. 77,000 traders lost digital assets totaling over $71 million, with most attacks targeting the Ethereum network.
